Air Tanker Use

Yes, that was the original plan

I recall the summer of SEATs in SoCal when the Forest Service lost all their Type 1 tankers.

The new Type 1 helitankers are a much better option. Like having a LAT with 3-8 min. turn around times

I agree, the CH47s seem to work really well

I was referring to flanking edges. In no way shape or form do I think its stopping head fire in the timber. And yes I really think it works when applied appropriately in those situations. I have seen it myself, and I know a few folks.

Anyone got any comments on this USC study on heavy metals in retardants?
Perimeter Solutions responded to it saying that the formula in question was never applied aerially, but they didn’t specifically deny the study’s claim of how many pounds of heavy metals have been spread across the landscape by PhosChek.

Fresno a great Base for it. They should get plenty of action out of there. Hopefully it will keep some fire from going extended and beyond.

Makes me wonder how they’ll do the actual basing as the -130s come on line. Redding, McClellan, Fresno, Chico … once they get more than four in service, maybe just keep a bunch at McClellan and farm them out. Not to mention that RADS can be used at more bases than MAFFS.

CWN C-130s used to operate out of Hemet-Ryan in years gone by. Any reason they can’t again ?

I thought Ramona was being looked at one point? San Bernardino tanker base has plenty of large tankers so could be why Hemet isn’t being considered.

Ramona is slated to have one assigned

Ramp space, lots more room at SBD or Ramona, they are budgeted to start a new facility at Hemet. Ramona will have a C-130 when fully operational

Per CALFIRE, the C-130’s will be assigned to Ramona, Paso Robles, Fresno, McClellan and Chico tanker bases.
