So much for the planned 1,2, 3 quick AT response from Ramona. Also heard when they’re using new retardant mix plant, the base water pressure drops in Ops buildings.

True but it was showing up on fires in North Ops per flight radar, which I know is not always accurate.

Well…
When you have a single 2-6" water main. The hydraulics is 500-1000 GPM through the pipe unless there is a pressure source for industrial applications. Then up to 1700 GPM.
Betting the pumps on the new plant are 500+ GPM. The ops building has at best a 2" line.
Not suprised at all the pressure falls off like that. CSR Tech services will figure it out by next fire season. Then put out the RFQ and bid package. With work completed by 2029🤣

I would assume a water district issue , or someone drastically undersider the lateral feed for the plant , water pressure is very good on the hydrants in that area , 150 psi and up , but if undersized feed it dont matter , can only stuff what you can stuff thru a small pipe

Agree, but the airbase is served by two 2” commercial water meters that fed into a 4” mainline under ramp to 6” manifold.
Sadly the SAC engineers didn’t calculate the flow (GPM) off the old base 4” feeder line would cause the current issue.
In 2006 we had two CL-415 based at Ramona on a County contract. We then contacted the local water district and they tapped a 6” service line into the 20” main.
Then they installed a construction meter and a shutoff with a 6” manifold to fill both Scoopers (3200 gallons) within 2 minutes for dispatch.

They didnt upgrade the feed for the mew plant ? Seems counter productive . From what i recall seeing , the 2. 2inch feeds were a seperate feed of the service for the buildings ??

Both 2” meters feed into a main 4” base line which goes under the concrete ramp down into the large valve box on the lawn.
Then all the buildings (CDF-FS) are served from that large 6” manifold there with 2” supply to each. The old retardant plant had a 6” supply line with 100 psi from that same manifold.

So, we are using a 2 1/2" line to supply a large diameter hose ? Sounds like locals should have been more involved with the design team.
