CAL FIRE IMT 5 activated
Hog 1: 170 acres, holding, expecting to have it contained by morning. Dozer line all the way around, but 65% is indirect dozer line.
Hog 2: 6 acres, contained
Hog 3: 100x100 spot, contained.
Bear mountain 10 minutes ago.
Didnât catch the designator but just diverted a strike team in the unit code 3 to bear mountain.
FSO now working on Evacs south of 180, west of Indian Guide Rd. Highway 180 is closed basically from Cove all the way to 245. 245 is also closed due to construction.
Looking at the cameras, the fire has made about a 2.5 mile run from this mornings perimeter, and is within 0.5-1 mile from impacting the first structures on Elwood.
Bolt 3500 acres, Flash 1500 acres per IC on Command 2.
Will there be a change in Air Tactics frequency for Wednesday?
It was CDF AT6.
The fire burning to the top of Bear Mtn. is the Bolt fire?
Cal Fire Team 6 assigned
It appears that overnight they lost the buildings associated with at least one tower. Does anyone know whoâs infrastructure and most importantly, will that affect comms for the responses? I am pretty sure that NWS and Calfire use Bear Mountain and it is highly populated with towers.
This isnt throwing stones at anyone but I am always amazed at the lack of fuels reduction at these sites. I know they are a mix of land owners yada yada but geez they should be able to have fire burn around them not through them.
yeah I was gonna say, thatâs Bear Mt. I watched it get impacted 4am this morning.
Most, if not all the Fresno county LE, Fire and EMS agencies are connected to Bear Mountain in a partial capacity at least. It isnât the sole repeater site but it will impact operations in these mountain and nearby rural communities if services were in fact impacted by the burn over.
I second that, we would take fuel reduction measures on our repeater tower on Big Hill. That serviced Cal Fire, CHP, Fish & Game etc. Like FireRx I also watched the fire inpact this site. I couldnât tell in any prep work was done before the fire. A little mastication work might of went a long way in helping to save infrastructure on this mountain top. We have Fire Crews maybe this should be a priority to maintain fuel reduction on these type of sites.
This is about the best shot I could find of the site âpre-fire.â At this point in the timeline I donât think they would want to attempt any more prep work than what had been previously completed. However, it doesnât appear that much, if any, had been completed prior to this photo or the fire.
Watching fires like this involving Bear Mt is nothing new. Iâve seen many over the years. Some prepped, some not. Seems in late Spring a little proactivity in prevention would be worth itâs weight in gold. Agencies need to come together for such especially involving highly sensitive and vulnerable comm sites.
The Bolt Fire is 4556
The Flash is 2180
Hog is 254
Copy, donât know the time line when this fire started and when they thought it was going to impact the site. Also was wonder if retardent was laid in around the site if possible. There again that could be hit or miss. Most of the oaks are still green on top and I see another building that look like it made it so far. A lot going on, on the mountain top tower & repeater wise.
