For those that don’t look at “X”.
Christmas day for reference.
Lachman fire
Palisades start.
Has anyone heard the cause of the Lachlan fire? If this fire is determined to be a rekindle from the Lachlan fire, then that cause could be tied to this fire for recovery, prosecution, etc
Fireworks.
Do you mean “rekindle “ ?
Media reporting homes spared by the fire are now being impacted by landslides. I know roads are closed by CALTRANS due to slides and this adds another layer. Anyone seen further?
I have seen a SINGLE home that has slided. I suspect there could be a water main issue in the area?
Evening news (NBC) stated they are trying to find, and fix, the water leak in the area of the slide.
There are two new DPs up for Palisades. http://maps.takserver.us
First one is in the current date folder - typical style, maps, IAP, IR overlay.
The new DP is in the new folder labeled “Imagery” - this is a tif overlay of the Maxar satellite photos. The original was 16gb so i shrunk it to 10% of original and that took it to about 300mb. Its pretty good for ATAK on a smaller screen. For raw uncompressed say for a desktop with constant internet connection thats where map tile servers come in handy. But check it out, its a great feature of TAK to be able to use these.
About the ATF tests:
What on earth are they doing out there, and what can the ATF hope to learn by simulating fire in an entirely different environment than existed when the Palisades fire started?
Local news has been very vague, but they mentioned that “no vegetation will be burned” and the tests will be conducted with a “propane torch” instead. They light fire observe it, then extinguish it, then light fire and extinguish it again.
Is the ATF trying to determine whether topography effects fire spread? (Seemingly the only component of the wildland fire environment they are replicating) Are they/why are they disregarding things like humidity and wind?
Can anybody shed any light on the theories they are testing?
No idea. But I’m glad to see I’m not the only one who had never heard of this and also had no idea what was going on.
Maybe, trying to shift focus to the early hours of initial fire after initial extinguishment, although completely opposite weather pattern from start day or night before.
Could be that LRA investigations of this level are lead by the ATF. I think investigations on this level, if the department who’s responsible for that area doesn’t have a prevention bureau like CF has, they seek outside help. ATF handles arson investigations as well amongst other obvious things. What they’re doin with the propane torches? Who knows…
With the number of fatalities & structures burned, the continued unknown cause of the fire, and history of fire in the area on 1/1/25. I would imagine the ATF findings being used for ORIGIN & CAUSE of the fire in all litigations
Both LAFD and LACoFD have very large prevention bureau’s with CA state Peace officer status.
