Big blowup on the eastern side of the fire in div alpha. It appears that a helispot has been burned over with some loss of equipment and a truck. I believe this to be 69 alpha. There is more flame visible now than I previous 3 days.

I need to correct the information that I posted in the fog as it evolved. The copter reporter stated that this was a helispot that was burned over. I assumed it was 69 alpha. My mistake this was a pumping platform for a hose lay into the canyon.

Talk of the 405 being shut down.

405 is being shut down, new Evacs from the 405 westward. Winds had switched out of the west. Talking about it being in Mandeville Canyon. I don’t think the Getty Fire from 2019 will really slow it down much, although I think some of the ridgetop dozer lines/roads are still there.

Looking at where the helicopters are dropped via ADSB, the fire is in the Northern part of Mandeville Canyon. I would guess it is abreast of the Mountain Gate Country club in the canyon below.

I’ve been watching all the LA tv news and didn’t hear a definitively that the 405 would close. But they did close all the off ramps in the sepulveda pass so that no one could get into those homes that are being evacuated. Just the off-ramps were closed.
The fire activity has slowed considerably in the last half an hour.

You are right. It appears they haven’t closed the 405. Trying to get a better idea from the news footage on where exactly the fire edge is.

Fire activity picked up with a wind shift but has died down considerably on the East flank compared to about 20 minutes ago.

The fire’s edge is west of the bottom of Mandeville canyon. Many strike teams have been brought in to Mandeville canyon for structure protection. One of the main worries was that the North end of Mandeville canyon where it would meet up with Mulholland drive

(UPDATED WITH NEW FIRIS PERIMETER)
There was a lot of retardant dropped yesterday on the ridge that got hopped this evening, curious how much contingency line is done on the next ridge to the east?
The pink line is where a lot of the drops were yesterday afternoon, and the red line on the right is the compass bearing of the fire’s edge per the Wilshire camera.

Bad setup to get that new overslung growth in a spot where resurgent Santa Ana tomorrow could blow it back down toward Crestwood Hills/Brentwood/Santa Monica.

If the fire hangs up and doesn’t move much, that could be a big worry because tomorrow evening strong NE winds are forecast through the area again. This is some pretty rugged country with very thick chaparral.

As this band of precip. passes through, it has been interesting to watch this sediment dam try and hold things. The tsunami-like surge at 1643 is strange!

I hope this question is allowed.
To anyone who responded to the Franklin Fire in Malibu, Dec. 2024 or the Palisades Fire, Jan. 2025. There are Beacon Boxes (beaconbox.us) that are positioned at the entrance to many neighborhoods along pacific coast highway. These boxes contain highly detailed roads maps of the area where the box is located. Over 10 of these boxes were accessed during these two fires. I am looking for intel from anyone that accessed these maps and data to see how they were really used during fire operations. I am also interested in any suggestions you might have in improving the functionality of these boxes.
Thank you for your time.
