the IA thread is for current info, you should try following that thread. current info should not be posted in the Q&D

Well to stay on the history topic, historically Q&D thread was meant for discussions about things related to the incident of topic (example: Fire history of the area) IA is where you can get that little tickle you might possibly maybe being deployed based on people listening to the frequencies where those requests are being made.

Past fires can help predict current conditions. Understanding a past footprint will often tell you exactly where your fire will go and how fast.

Some people want to come in here and make demands. It is unfortunate that people feel the need to try and establish dominance and take over what information is shared in the Q&D thread. This Forum was created for ALL FORMS of information to be shared, not just the current fire conditions. The main killer of personnel is failure in communication. Communicating historical fire behavior is a huge tool in planning. It seems as if he is only worried about if an LG strike team is being ordered based on his past posting.

In 50 years I have been on quite a number of fires 3 or 4 times. And I am not talking about the same little spot of grass. I am talking about the 10k to 100k+ fires.
History is vital.

History does not repeat but it rhymes.

Any relevant data to this notion should be shared in a discussion based environment and whatā€™s happening with the fire moment by moment in the IA thread.

Just to explain the comment furtherā€¦ no two major fire will ever be the exact same as the vegetation, weather conditions, road conditions, etc will be different but use the data from the past to yours and others benefitā€¦ shouldnā€™t be an issue discussing a past burn in the context of a current fire.

It actually does but Iā€™ll discuss this offline with youā€¦

Now that the fire has spotted across the Chowchilla River Iā€™m sure a team will be deployed.

That area has not burned since 1961, there is big fuel break on deadwood mountain that runs close to coarsegold.

Define big if you donā€™t mind?

2400 acres based on Google earth estimate.

Thatā€™s good size depending on length and width. Your insight is strong so Iā€™ll buy that if you say it might slow it down then it will.

Its real wide and extends along highway 41 as a shaded fuel break and was planned on going down by the casino. How much has been maintained is a bit of a guess.

Anyone know where the main fire is and which way it is likely headed. Hopefully the wind dies down after sundown.

Was at a friends house swimming and saw T82, T83 and Copter 404 flying south. Could see the header from Hwy-108 and S. Washington in Sonora. At 15:47 my kid text me and said heā€™s headed to MMU to a fire. Where am I going with this. Saw Slasher post on where the fire isā€¦Thanks for the heads up BrushSlasher. Hell yes itā€™s important to pass this down on a going fire in the same area as the Harlow. That was the Gold Standard for rate of spread for many a year up and down the front county from Tulare to Placer. FYIā€¦text my kid about the Fire History in that areaā€¦Like anywhere else that has had fire fatalities and critical rates of spreadā€¦This would be the year to freaking know about it.
