CA-MNP-Dome?

When I ran a Handcrew out of OVY went to a fire near Trona and it was 117…130 puts a whole new spin on HOT. Thanks for those updates on the Temps and Fire.

They recently discredited the 134 temperature as it was found to have occurred during a sandstorm. Theory is that hot sand was blowing into the shelter that houses the sensor and caused it to be misread. That’s why all the news reports are saying the 130 is now the new record.

Meh, 130 or 134, it’s damn hot. No matter if it’s the “official” number or not.

As a desert attendee, but not as a FF in the desert (always SoCal and Central Cal mountains and foothills), I am always looking. Maps always give me perspective. Sad to see where this is running.

Just a bit of fire history for the area. 70k acres in June of 2005. went to a team, and ultimately had over 1000 folks putting it out. Been on a few “park” fires, and the restrictions on critical habitat drove me nuts!
Just heard from crew currently onscene. Getting precip, as well as lightning.
We shall see what the Team brings in the morning.
Stay safe out there!

That was the Hackberry. At the time the IMT was ordered, the largest chunk of the complex (5k) wasn’t even the chunk of fire that got up and ran. Burned a bunch of ranches, I don’t remember if it was 12 or not.

43,000 acres per WildCad

AA15 with 2 lats working.

CAIIMT12 took over as the IMT last night. 43.248 acres, 5% contained. No direct line due to sensitive habitat and access issues and low resources commitment. Using roads and terrain features with only 184 personnel assigned. Windy and hot with thunderstorms possible. Challenging for sure.

Current plan is to hand over the fire on Saturday 8/22 at 1800hrs to the local type 3.

I have been mulling over this for a few days and am now sharing my thoughts. I have heard interviews and read quotes from agency personnel mourning the loss of thousands of Joshua trees amid the most densely populated Joshua tree forest in the world. This is a tragedy…etc and I agree completely. In other statements, interviews and press releases, the company line is due to environmental policies and wilderness concerns, fire personnel are very limited in how they fight the fire. This is a perfect example of the dichotomy of the Federal fire program and how unwilling they are to meet the current need even though there is policy (which is bendable) in place. Credibility of the agency (s) in professional and public eyes get severely strained. I am not trying to start an argument, but simply stating that we sometimes are our own worst enemy…
