So…I’m not up to date on FS vehicles, especially patrols. Patrol 24 was up canyon and was getting cut off by fire. Stated he used his “auxiliary air filter” and that did not work. Truck died and he had to hoof it out. Thats when E350 located him and got him to safety. Is there something they carry to aid in clean air in situations like this?

Most engines carry an extra Air Filter for the engine intake. Common to suck in an Ember and the filter starts to burn, normally pull it out and throw in a new one. It can cause the engine to stall and turn off. I assume that is what is being referenced here. They probably couldn’t get the engine re-started.
