Not far from where this fire is burning and adjacent to Reef Station (41/33 crossing) is the site where we lost LPF Battalion Chief Gary Helming on Aug 31st 2017. He was killed in a vehicle accident on his way home from a fire near YNP. This IMO is hallowed ground! Many lives have been lost on the 46 & 41. Be safe y’all..

The accident site is in Sunflower Valley 15-20 miles north on SR41. This fire is off SR46E.

I believe there is a Tri-County Response agreement (Kern, Kings, San Luis) that covers that area, unless it fell apart after 2008. If it’s still in place then KRN will get involved. Based on the wind they may not get a chance to opt out.

A couple of bright spots. 1) It’s pretty much all grass and on the Kern side I know that, at one time, they had grazing going on. 2) The winds should die down at night as the thermal imbalance is mitigated.
This is another of those “fast in the grass” wildland areas in the KRN “westside” area. It “should” be a lot easier to catch as the sun sets. I can’t say “as it cools off” since it’s still so darn warm at night!
…I say that as they update it to 600 acres.

We had a fire in the same spot about 20 years ago. Afternoon winds will push it to KRN SLO Co line. Once it falls off the edge of the hill dropping down twards the county line it gets out of the wind and fire progression should slow down.. At the county line there is a north south canyon that give you a really good place to catch it, worst case you could take that line all the way to hwy 41. Its all grass for the most part with very little in the way of brush. I should add, this fire should die out before it hits Kern Co.

No need for Type 1 IMT. If anything, the XSL IMT. Once the sun goes down and it gets on the East facing slopes they always go out. They have enough resources just have to connect the dots.

Looks like a Golf ST from SDU will arrive in a couple hours, maybe coming back from the Gann?
Mapping flight incoming, my guess is 1500acres.
