Looking at the cams doesn’t look like much of an inversion this morning compared to the past couple of days. Things may heat up quickly today?
Also looks like the east side is pretty done, with main smoke NW and SE parts of fire.
If the plan is to stop it on first main road to south, the box would be about 110k acres (blue box)
.
Now 70,800 acres… Per CAL FIRE Intel aircraft.
It’s 81 and breezy here in Santa Ynez, equally as breezy in Santa Maria as of an hour ago. But clear other than the smoke.
The fire has now been mapped at 70,800.5 acres by CAL FIRE Intel aircraft.
WD said the jumped the road, any body now where?
Also I’m listening to it on broadcastifty Santa Barbara County sheriff fire aircraft Marine etc. Any else better to hear just Forest Net?
And thank you for all the other updates. Happy 4th of July
The fire is 79,702 acres according to a mapping flight flown around 1 a.m. 10% containment. Watch Duty also has ‘heat map’ posted.
Not a lot of intel coming out. I’ve not heard of or seen any monstrous resource orders either. No news on the team. I think this thing is dying out as fast as it grew. Heat map isn’t showing as much as I anticipated. Existing resources have done a great job. Certainly not contained, but think it’s winding down its show.
It’s in dry grass area mostly on the North/East side
You are correct. The fire has burned from the flats of Cuyama to the flats of Carrizo, with most (all) of the heat being up in the Caliente’s. Aka there is a huge buffer of good black from the flashy fuels almost all the way around the fire. Most heat is from interior islands cleaning themselves up. Not a ton of work for crews to do. Plenty of resources on scene, very few areas of time sensitive line to be constructed or held. Source: assigned.
Here’s a bunch of pretty good B-roll of the fire. Shows ground conditions, fuels, weather and tactics. Even shows what I can only guess to be a PGE fire crew working to protect their infrastructure.
Per the LPF…
Update July 5, 2025
California Incident Management Team 8 assumed command of the fire on July 4, 2025, at 7:00PM. The fire is in Unified Command with Los Padres National Forest, Bureau of Land Management, and CAL FIRE San Luis Obispo Unit. The fire remains active with wind-driven runs that allow for continued fire growth to the southeast. There were areas of perimeter growth and intense fire on the northwestern and southeastern sections. Within the perimeter, there were isolated pockets of fire and large areas of scattered fire.
Weather: The current forecast calls for minor warming and drying through Monday where interior areas will see temperatures in the high 80s to mid-90s with humidities ranging between 5 and 15 degrees. Winds are expected from the southwest to northwest at 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph across the interior valleys and mountains with isolated gusts up to 40 mph in the Antelope Valley foothills.
To be brief, it has burned a whole lot of nothing?
The fire is now 79,935.6 acres and 30% contained, per CAL FIRE and the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC).
Madre Fire Daily Update from Los Padres National Forest:
Size: 79,936 Acres
Containment: 30%
Total Personnel: 1,358
The Madre Fire remains active due to dry fuels, sustained winds, and high temperatures. Firefighters made good progress around the outer perimeter of the fire, creating direct and indirect lines, and increased containment. The incident command team is utilizing a variety of resources including helicopters, dozers, engines, and hot shot crews. Crews are working around the clock towards full suppression of the fire.
