That’s a CHERRY ONE OWNER fire engine.
Some units still have 14’s & 15’s as reserve units & not just camp engines. I’ve seen more than a few on 1st out Charlie’s.
Now if you were covering a 1 or 5 I might agree with your description of that CHERRY RIDE
Paoletti Super 9 that was the first engine I worked on. It was a tank, even took it swimming once, it kept going with a quick drain of the transmission.
Any more updates of folks in units calling their FF1’s? We were told either the 20th or the 27th. So be staffed. But the emergency hire calls were made.
I preferred the Model 11 as excellent for WUI assignments. 3.0 staffing cab over, powerful 500 gpm midship diesel auxiliary pump, 1100 gallon tank plus a foam system.
Wasn’t the fastest uphill, but a racehorse on the flats or downhill. The transmission retarder worked so well, it was connected to brake lights.
Wasn’t the fastest uphill is the understatement of the century. There was more than once I thought we either needed to get out and push or just takeoff on foot and the engine would catch us eventually. But that being said, the rest of your statement is 100% accurate.
Rode on one of those retrofitted, naturally aspirated diesels 1’s, too. Slow at everything, but better than the original gas. Our other was a turbo diesel international #9. That thing moved out!
The 9 was on one of the 2 CDF STC’s that went to Yellowstone.
