With lots of heat warnings going up for the coming days it’s sounding very likely we’ll be hearing about all kinds of records going down & with all the talk of “warmest ever” winter - thought i’d post this little diddy as a reminder/reality check. ![]()
Not to stir controversy or political un-nicery regarding climate - just intel sharing for some who might get caught up sometimes - like i’ve been known to do - whenever smart people and/or institutions talk about shattering records, record warmth/cold/storms etc. It was good for me to learn what some of those smarter than me people meant by “we’re living in one of the quietest Wx & climate times in earth known history.” ![]()

This is a very sobering application! Just hovering the cursor over each state and seeing where they sit currently is.. a bit scary!
Yeah, most Western states are hovering near their record minimum SWE content or plunging toward it, and this big anomalous ridge hasn’t even really kicked in yet. Here’s CA, OR, WA, and CO.
Noticed in yesterdays WFSTAR social media post regarding the 2026 topics for RT-130 there were no mentions of content regarding; Common Denominators, unusual dryness taking place in the western states, extreme fire behavior, etc. I guess/assume they’re assuming the people using their package will add that in when they teach it.. ![]()
Well, I’m glad they got the fire contained and controlled but I have some questions.
- Firing up Hill…
- Fire with wind gust strong enough to blow you over.
- It looked by the smoked production it was not that Big of a fire.
In all fairness I was not there But: All my years in fire putting fire on the ground you better have your I’s dotted and T’s crossed.
Hope the FF fully recovers from his burn injury.
Fyi..
Elevated to PL2 as of today!
