My favorite as AA radio comms on the 2002 Pines Fire was “RAAB, tower, Tell the retardant contractor to order more product for this week.
(Fire went 10 days, and Ramona AAB pumped a million gallons on that one)

On the slu 41 fire in 94, i went through 184,000 gal in one day at praab. Next day i called the retardant contractor and told them to send me one 40,000 lb trailer every hour until I tell you to stop. He said he couldnt supply me that much and the 2nd due base at the same time. I told him forget the 2nd due base and make it happen or I’m calling the 2nd due contractor. I got what i asked for.

I will share a ROS and AA story with you all. Yr 94, NM, Coffee pot fire. The fire blew up, forcing crews to their safety zones, shelters were deployed and a few of us became cut off from our crew. We encountered extended extreme FB that set us on a course of out running the fire in the green until the following morning. (We opted not to deploy) AA stayed w us past cut off helping us locate a rock out cropping for us to hunker down in for the night. AA Was back out before first light to guide us to a place where we could catch a helo ride out of that mess. I will never forget that guy, he helped us out of a very difficult situation. There is so much more to this story, much more. Most of us will experience that portal moment in our careers when we experience that life changing moment that defines the FF’s we will become. The crew I was on was ECHS, CNF TRD.

August 1998 - Lightning struck the RRU. Many starts. Air Attack finally got airborne, 500 acres+ already in my fire in Perris (Bernasconi), and said “Perris, you might want to write this down” and started listing fires from Warner Springs to Corona. Ironic note - 28 years ago today that was.
