Imagine..
A lightning strike starts a fire and it is almost immediately detected by space based technology. It gets verified (if/as needed) by a land based technology - and an un-maned aerial vehicle (or fleet of them) capable of dropping water/retardant is simultaneously dispatched to the scene. All of this happens in just a handfull of seconds. Sound far fetched?
Humans are working on that very thing and other fascinating advances in wildfire/firefighting right now. Check it out..
