Does the USFS now staff certain engines with Call When Needed FF’s ?
I knew they have AD hand crews but hadn’t heard about engines being staffed this way .
This is how I started with the USFS…we didnt have an AD crew on my local district we were used to fill in on engines…1993…CA-CNF

Yes many forests are using ADs to supplement staffing on engines. Been doing it for a few years now.
and these positions are 40 hrs/week min. So not your traditional AD hires. These are seasonal firefighters been paid AD wages
Ok I was wondering if a person can sign up and just work the engine when they are available. Kind of like how people go on overhead assignments as ADs . Sounds like this is more of a time commitment.
Chance they might have ran out of applications for temporary positions.
