burning 40 miles southeast of King Salmon, started on May 29, 2022. The fire continues to be monitored by National Park Service and DOF personnel as it burns in a limited management area in Katmai National Park & Preserve.

The north/northeast side of the fire in the hills is effectively stopped and is basically out. All creeks that are at least 6-10 feet wide are holding the fire. The entire active portions of the fire perimeter are surrounded or about to bump (0-2 days) 6-10 foot wide streams/creeks. Currently all fire growth to the north is stopped at Big Creek. The flank on the east side near Contact Creek is actively backing with the backing fire within 50 yds of the weather station
This fire is currently at 8,127 acres. Portions of the fire perimeter have burned into natural barriers inhibiting further spread. Sections of the northwestern, southern and eastern flank of the fire remain active.
