Alert Wildfire - New Beta Version

Liking the new beta version of Alert Wildfire.

ALERT Wildfire

Particularly like the “Tile Display” for building custom views with select cams from multiple regions that can be saved and/or shared as a link - THAT… friends, is a winner!

Also seeing ability to pause the “time lapse” and step forward/back by frame - another excellent feature.

Well done AW Team!

P.S. Still interested in a resource that references planned installations.

Question. Who maintains the cameras location database? Reason I ask is several cameras on showing up in wrong location tabs. Would sure be nice to tell someone what cameras in wrong location. Question is who to contact…

@ALERTWildfire

UCSD and UNR maintains the database. Feel free to direct message me or reply suggestions and we will look into them.

Looks good and easy to navigate. It has come a long ways since early days of HPWREN

Hello, great update.

If I could suggest one thing, it would be to add a search function to the page. I would love to be able to just search for a camera or location based on name of the camera or nearby town/city, which would queue up the camera immediately on a drop down menu.

EDIT: just realized there is a search function on each individual page, but I would like one for the main page encompassing all regions.

Thanks,

AH

Agreed. Also having the unit or forest they’re located in i.e. BDU, BDF, RRU, CNF etc…

Makes sense to access all cameras not just the region itself.

@Flapjack Great idea. Will bring this to the team.

If we are going even farther an integrated wildfire history map layer would be great too.

And an SRA layer.

WIFIRE has done a great job with their map. Active and Recent History has merit.

@pyrogeography DPA has been requested and is in the plan of work to add.

I started contract work with HPWREN in 2004 after my Cal-Fire retirement. The initial concept was to duplicate this new system into more locations, with sensors and real-time cameras. I’m honored to have been the liaison for the initial systems with Cal Fire MVU and a vision of new collaborations for the wildfire community.

Exciting now to see it evolve into the current Alert Wildfire System throughout the west. Since I now live in SW Colorado, I’ve made contact with some folks here in hopes of having them also onboard someday.

Such a little thing, but on Sierra Nevada/Foothill list, McKenzie cam is misspelled. That being said, I don’t know how we ever lived without this valuable resource. Thank you.

@Flyron Thank you for your service. HPWREN paved the way and has been critical in our success.

@CouchPotato Thanks for the heads up on McKenzie Ridge. You should see it updated on the website now.

Brief comments on the AWF Beta. The header at the top of the screen that indicates the region takes up valuable screen and causes the bottom of the camera display and map to be cutoff when a thumbnail is double clicked. Having to scroll the page each time a camera is changed is annoying.

Also, I am a CalFire VIP volunteer fire lookout in Nevada County. There are times when I use AWF in the tower on a smartphone. The site is difficult at best with a small screen. It would be helpful for the developers to consider small screen users needs as part of the development.

Thanks for all your efforts.
