Fire crews worked overnight on the Horse Fire on the Cave Creek Ranger District at MM 8 off Horseshoe Dam Road. Currently, the fire is 0% contained and approximately 100 acres. Cause is under investigation. Read below for more information.

Fire crews are responding to the Horse Fire on the Cave Creek Ranger District at MM 8 off Horseshoe Lake Road. Crews will be working overnight conducting fire suppression operations. Four engines, one helicopter including Mesa and Payson Interagency Hotshot Crews are actively working the fire to protect the KA Ranch, Horse Dam infrastructure and Forest Service campgrounds. Earlier the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office assisted with providing food, water and supplies to the KA Ranch.
A closure will be in effect for the entire portion of NFSR 205, also known as Horseshoe Dam Road, starting from NFSR 19, also known as Bartlett Dam Road beginning 9 a.m. Monday, May 6, through June 5, 2024, until 6 p.m., unless rescinded. For the safety of firefighters and the public, please avoid the area during fire suppression operations.

WD: NIFC is now showing the fire as 433 acres in size. Per SWCC, SWA Central West Zone IMT3 will brief tomorrow (May 7th) in anticipation of taking over management of the fire.
