Seems to be blowing west to NW today. Sure hope the burning ops held.

Actually relooking at the camera it shows to burning towards the ridge burn scar from a couple weeks ago possibly a ridge over from it going into that near Hwy 138

It is still about 6-7 miles east of there.

Didnā€™t add a lot of acreage. 18,526.

This mornings IR Topo: oops, to large. But thatā€™s how I found the acreage.
Todays Day Shift IAP: Thatā€™s too large too.
Sorry, I tried. All the products are over 8mb. Not posting to a cloud server.

Is this happening now?

This was the big blowup a couple days ago.

Sundowner winds are surfacing over the fire. NW winds 15-20 with gusts to 30 MPH. These winds are expected the next few nights.

Moving crews on DIV G and DIV F into safe locations.

Hard to tell in the dark but that appears to be the 138/5 junction there in the foreground. And if thatā€™s the case, should be running into a recent burn scar to the North but if starts pushing hard to the 5 thereā€™s nothing but receptive fuel from there all the way back to Castaic proper with a number of RV storages tucked in there between

Itā€™s on the south side of Pine Canyon. Running southwest currently.

Launching AA51 over the fire, it is making a substantial push

They were going to do a burning operation tonight, if the weather was cooperating.

Last night they had to stop the firing op around 2300 because extreme fire behavior, wind, and safety. It was capping out and making a hard push to the East. The wind was howling all night. Fire is starting to get some steam again. Wonā€™t be surprised if itā€™s capped out by 0700. Itā€™s going to be a long 105 degree day.

I know the accuracy of heat detection, but it is very good about giving a general idea of growth. Regarding growth from last night, as of satelitte passing time: Screenshot_20200818-074935_Chrome

25,948 acres, 38% contained. Down to @ 1900 personnel. From Inciweb After the shallow smoke inversion broke, the fire aligned in drainages and generated intense head fire with spotting. Pyrocumulus clouds formed throughout the day to further intensify the burning conditions.

As fire moves into continuous heavy fuels, localized instability is combining with the unstable air above and creating potential plume dominated fire behavior. Long range spotting continues to challenge suppression efforts.
