Near Pinyon Flats Campground off Hwy 74. Camera has been zoomed in and is showing the flame front.
Spotted across the road. Maybe a good time to request a VLAT.
Throwing spots and about to push up hill.
Throwing some spots with ease
AA is only calling it 2-3 acres with a MROS with a good wind. Potential for 500 acres.

Was there on T-3 Striketeam in 1996-97? Fire aligned with winds and slope burned over 2000 acres and lost 12 structures.
Flyron - July 3rd 1994… plus one brand new Model 14 - the Palm Fire
Looks like some squirrelly winds, right flank pushed south for a few minutes on the camera.
The added concern is the mid afternoon wind that shifts from the desert valley and push West to Southwest…Will push right up towards Toro and back on Pinyon…
Yes, the Palm fire made that run like a freight train. The spots landed around all the structures. Even the fire station (RVC 30) is in the path.
That was a scary day back then. First time I saw a Sky Crane come really close to crashing from downslope winds.
Actually 19,200 acres & 7 homes lost:
Desert interface fire
1994 Palm Fire
2002 Pines Fire
You get a 90 degree wind shift about every 6-8hr.
27 yr old fuel bed, the Red Shank is nuking like its September and not June.
Who wants to bet this will be the 1st team deployment of 2021 in California? I got $100 on Fed Team 10 before day break will be ordered.
On a serious not, SA and 1 foot in the black. It hasn’t even gotten hot yet. This will burn a few thousand acres before its all.over with.
I believe team 10 is in Utah right now
No way that new smoke to the north was a spot…new start within 1000’???
Looks like it chewed through the retardant
Looks to be lined up with Shumway Ranch Road, it has 4 structures back there with no water source and the drive in is Type 3 only with very tight turnaround at the very end.
Watch the playback on the camera, it could most certainly be a spot as the fire was hung up in that confluence. Judging from the smoke it looked to be in an eddy effect which could have thrown a spot laterally with the rotational winds. I’m hoping that’s the case and not the adverse which would be someone out there to do no good. Heads on a swivel
Watched from its start. It’s all one incident.
