CA-BTU-Dixie?

Mandatory evac Old Station & 89 closed at Wilcox Rd… Not good at all - the mess continues. This one was bound to happen and most of us who know that area were keeping fingers crossed that it wouldnt… Be safe y’all!

There’s a massive pyrocumulus head visible from either Chester or on the Butt Lake cam. Aerial activity over the past few days has been pretty intensive - a half-dozen MAFFs and multiple DC-10s at a time making a constant circuit.

I seriously think this thing will push for Burney or Alturas. It’s just insane.

Is it just me or does it seem like this age of mega fires are really just connecting all the dots - and using WUI, old scars & treated areas as receptive fuel beds for spotting! You kno we (usfs) promised in all those NEPA docs that flames would be less than 4’ & fire fighter safety would be improved after we did the work! All the “treatments” us & private have done is set the table for mother nature to finish the job in her own terms… Am i crazy or???

Word! It could easily romp across the Thousand Lakes Wilderness into the Burney basin and even cook down to Shingletown, Whitmore, Latour State Forest… Lets hope it doesnt. (Yes i kno hope isnt a plan) As for a plan lets stop putting fire on the ground - just a thought…

I’m thinking the next stop, Fall River Mills with the current alignment. It’s going to run the Hat Creek Rim and the basin in the old Lost Fire scar and head thata way.

This fire wants to reach the desert sage/juniper of the LMU… Lets stay outta the way (except to protect life) and let it…

Quote from AA when the creek made it’s first big run that fits with well with fires burning right now.

No stopping it.
Any suppression resources to the north along with people need to be evacuated.

Once again… A request for some caution. For those who are new to the site, or are not tenured posters, please be careful. This is a site with lots and lots of SMEs and firefighters with decades of experience. Stating something based on conjecture, not based on some significant experience, or just editorializing can have profound affects as others who are new on the site or live where you are discussing and see your post and then think it is gospel. This site has a lot of credibility, experts, and some techno wizards that boggle others brain’s, so folks need to be cautious about throwing out an un-vetted suggestion i.e. it might go to Nevada or Utah in a couple of days, unless they have multiple model runs that support the statement. Let’s work together to keep this site as an awesome place for great fire related intel and professional discussions.

i appreciate your words & wisdom. Im a rookie poster here and ive made statements/prognostications & suggestions. I think its fair to point out that tenure as a poster on this site doesn’t always equal street smarts. Im a rookie poster AND i’m not a rookie wildlander. In fact its my old battalion thats burning now and i do have many years of experience on that ground that most posters probably do not. I feel this is a good time & Dixie a “good” fire to respectfully remind everyone of that famous proverb = All models are wrong its just some are usefull…
