These FKU west side fires like the Boone many times burn like crazy the first burn period or so then fire behavior relaxes at night with a little recovery which leads them to firing out overnight. This wouldn’t wouldn’t be the first time one has chugged out a few thousand acres the first day and was nearly over in 24 hours. We’ll see how their firing ops went…

Sounds just like the 2020 Mineral. Im sure the end result map of the Boone will look very similar to the Mineral.
With the new team coming in is there
any word on Equipment orders going out?
I’d expect it to be this evening like normal if it happens.
Reported as 11,000 acres this morning.
6,550 acres per Cal Fire Intel plane
11,000 acres was one hell of an overestimate just for them to knock it back down to only a doubling of 6,500 acres. Feels like a very 2014-esk overestimate from AA.
10 engines immediate need to los Gatos Creek Rd x juniper ridge Rd
Fresno fire sending brush engine 15&16 haven’t caught who else is going
Wow, I dont know how it is only 6500 acres if its threatening Los Gatos Creek Rd. The Juniper FCR is 21 miles long. If it gets established north of Los Gatos it will be running uphill into the Benitoite Mine areas. This area is heavily loaded with naturally occuring Asbestos formations and requires special permissions to operate in under IA circumstances. This is thousands of acres that could be a no go zone for personnel possibly. I hope they make a valiant stand on Los Gatos. Shows how dynamic fires in the Coalinga mountains are. From grass and oaks to brush and timber, sandy slopes and washes to rocky ridges and outcroppings, special hazards and minimal access. Hope conditions are favorable.
I made a comment during the 2020 Mineral related to what you’re saying. The Mods started a new thread and turned it into CA-VMPs. The comment I made was related to risk vs gain, and treated acres vs suppression. CalTopo says it all.
Cheers
Firewatch AA51 is enorute to map fire @2100.
Not sure where the mapping gets posted for a CalFire Team…I saw a type 1
was ordered.
Which Team? I believe Team 3 for this week was up??
22:00 update: 12,200 acres per AA51
Maybe the AA estimate of 11k was just a future forecast.
That VMP thread is a real rabbit hole! It looks like a bunch of us had a lot of time on our hands right about then (Covid cabin fever, slow days before the 2020 Lightning Bust…) Still a good topic, but I’m glad we beat it to death, then!
Team 2 got the call
AA51 mapped at 12,252 acres.
