Are you sure, that is pretty far from the fire and limited space.
That was are reporting location for check in,
The team is at the college
And a long drive through the middle of town
You take the scenic loop road out to 395, no going through town. Easy out to the fire.
So everyone is tent up , probably cold at night.
And scorching hot during the day…
I sure hate to see this. I did a lot of crew work in that area at OVY Camp. As already stated hot in the summer, cold in the winter. Very dry area…Takes a long time to grow a forest there. Truly a beautiful area with abundant wildlife…And yes, the wind can howl in that area.
and with so many frequent fires in recent years, somewhat of a moonscape in places, sad.
Camp is at the Crestview Guard Station, ICP is at the Canyon Lodge
2362 acres and 15% containment as of mid morning today. From Inciweb, Dexter Fire Update July 16 - InciWeb the Incident Information System : Hand Crews: 6 Engines: 30 Helicopters: 4 Air Tankers: 2 Dozers: 3 Water Tenders: 2 Total Personnel: 308
Yesterday, afternoon winds continued to spread the fire to the northeast within the planned fire perimeter, while crews strengthened and monitored the northern and southern flanks. Mop up (extinguishing the smoldering area along the fireline) has begun in both of those areas. The fire is still active on the northeast edge and today’s priority is to continue strategic firing to keep the fire within the perimeter. Some aircraft has been diverted due to regional priorities for other fire starts, but will still be available to assist with slowing fire spread.
From the Queen Bee cam, not looking as ominous today. ALERT Wildfire
