Team 12 is on 2hr. I know they are being sent to Redding for pre-position today, is this why 13 is getting it?
Yes, because of the potential of a large fire in North Ops Team 12 is going to stage and Team 13 will be heading to the Iris.
I found Oak Creek RAWS, I believe south of the incident,
4pm
wind average 16.0
out of 142 degrees
gusts 27.0
air temp 86.0
RH 9
Winds in the Mammoth area, including on the upper ridges and in town are sustained at @ 10 and gusts @ 20 or more. Temps are down 10 degrees or more. Surface winds are from the NW, but smoke from the Iris is rising vertically, and then pushing at higher altitude over Mammoth, from the SE. Very “breezy” in town.
Last update 125 acres, 20% containment.
All aircraft are off the fire.
From last nights Inciweb update: Today, fire crews and aircraft worked to aggressively suppress the Iris Fire, located east of the Rock Creek Road near Iris Meadows Campground. The fire is estimated to be 125 acres and 20% contained.
Winds continued to challenge fire response today with growth being both to the east and west with up canyon and down canyon winds. Numerous air and ground resources were working the suppression response including tankers, helicopters, hand crews and engines, water tenders, and a dozer.
AA15 departed FAT around 8:30 enroute. Have not heard any tankers lift from FAT.
Per AA yesterday evening AA only requesting tankers as needed today.
Meant to post in IA, not Q & D. No smoke production at all today from what I could see. Picture of East ridge well painted:
170 acres, 60% contained. Type 2 IMT on scene.
Inciweb update for today states creeping and smoldering observed overnight. Still 170 acres, 60% contained, Wakoski is IC. One initial report stated fire was on both sides of the canyon. Looks like everything stayed on the east side. Nothing visible for fire activity from 395. Canyon still closed to non-fire personnel through Sunday the 26th.
~Monday morning update: 120 acres, 90% contained. Many of the crews engaged in suppression repair today. Rock Creek Rd to reopen tomorrow, July 27.
~Tuesday morning update: 120 acres, 93% contained. Rock Creek Rd. open to public.
~Final update states as of 1800 hours Tuesday the 28th, transitioning back to the INF and no additional updates to be provided.
93% contained 120 acres and is the final update inciweb.
