Watch Duty is showing a new fire north of the McKinney Fire, about 4 miles south of the Oregon/California state line called the Alex Fire. About 80 acres, “originally believed to be part of the McKinney now being run as a separate incident.”

Alex Fire is one of many on the Klamath. Klamath Facebook page has the following:

Current Klamath National Forest Lightning Fires

In addition to the #McKinneyFire and #China2Fire, there are 10 fires burning on the Klamath National Forest.

Two of the fires are on the Happy Camp/Oak Knoll District:

-The Blue Fire is 5 miles south of Seiad on Walker Ridge and is in a burn scar from 2014. The fire was tamped down by a tanker drop and ground resources are working their way in.

-The Slinkard Fire is 4 miles southeast of Seiad, near O’Neil Creek. It is .1 acre and crews are working their way in.

-An additional fire has been identified north of the #McKinneyFire. The Alex Fire has been absorbed by Interagency Incident Management Team 10 and is in the area of Alex Hole. The Alex Fire is roughly 4 miles south of the Oregon border and has resources from the Rogue River Siskiyou National Forest assigned.

The Salmon/Scott District has eight fires:

-The Lovers Fire is up from Lovers Camp, near Deep Lake, and is about .5 acres in size. As of 8 PM last night, it had line around it. It is staffed by 7 smokejumpers.

-The Yellow Fire is .1 acres near Lake Mountain Lookout. It has been lined, mopped up, and is in patrol status.

-The Kelsey Fire is 10-15 acres and has current evacuation orders in place. Structures are in the area and evacuation orders are in place. Numerous resources are on scene and more continue to arrive. CAL FIRE is assisting with this effort.

-The Eddie Fire is .2 acres with 1 engine one scene. It received precipitation last night and is near Eddie Gulch Lookout.

-The Gulch Fire, also near Eddie Gulch Lookout, is .1 acre. Resources are on scene.

-The McNeil Fire is 2 miles south of Forks of Salmon, near McNeil Creek. It is .5 acres and 90% lined. The line held overnight and resources remain on scene.

-2 additional fires are on the Salmon/Scott Ranger District but are being managed by the Six Rivers National Forest. They are close to each other near the North Fork of Wooley Creek near Dad’s Pocket. Smokejumpers and a hotshot crew are assigned.

When multiple folks are commenting on the weird wind patterns and they are it is time to really pay attention and pay even more attention to situational awareness. Things change in a big way really fast with TRW up and down drafts. Stay safe all!

No chatter in 3hrs? Fire out? Saw a large storm cell headed that way few hrs ago on radar…

I was just thinking the same thing! There’s been lots of thunder cells rolling through. Radio chatter has gone to almost nothing except for dispatches to a couple of new lightning fires. The smoke has shut down the air show, so I think there’s not really a lot of good intel being gathered right now.

Yreka weather station got around 1/5 to 1/4 of rain around midnight last night and storm seemed to be more centered to the west towards the fire so who knows what that got… fingers crossed but who knows.

Last night’s IR has some cloud cover, but new maps are on the-lookout.org.
Anyone informed on tactics in Div Y? Are they going to let it back down to McAdams Creek Road or try to pick it up more direct? Looks like Div Y is Cal Fire DPA?
