An all-agency #MightyThree response to a new start occurred yesterday 10 miles south of the #BorelFire in the town of Twin Oaks near Caliente, on state response land with BLM land involved. The #BlueFire started after 12 p.m. yesterday, with units responding from U.S. Forest Service, Kern County Fire Department, Bureau of Land Management Fire, CAL FIRE, and the Borel Fire initial attack (IA) group. This IA group is specifically equipped for rapid response, and was among the first to arrive on scene. These IA firefighting modules can break away and assist any local new fire not connected to the Borel fire, and then they can return to their assignments on the Borel fire once additional resources can be committed to the new start.
The quick mutual aid response was effective; our dedicated troops worked tirelessly all night and continue today, demonstrating firm commitment to this operation. The forward rate of spread was stopped early this morning and the fire is at approximately 35% containment.
The firefighting efforts are proof of the extensive and diverse resources involved. These collectively include air tankers, MAFFS aircraft, a night flying helicopter, CAL FIRE hand crews, a Kern County Fire Department strike team of engines, and Helicopter 408, each playing a key role in our mission to contain and extinguish the #BlueFire.
Today’s weather, with hot temperatures in the mid-90s and humidities below 20 percent, presents significant challenges. However, Incident Commanders and all resources are acutely aware of the urgency and are committed to working diligently together to achieve more containment.
