New start at the base of the Grapevine on the west side. IC asking for airtankers before the sun sets. Live video showing the fire beginning to run up the steep slopes.

AA requesting T76 from Porterville. Pretty close to cutoff. Pumpkin time is right around 830 I think tonight.

Kern had a fire in a fairly similar place last year or the year before, would think they would be able to use the same control lines

Have fires there every year. Usually corraled by retardant and handline so not much good the next year.

Both tankers dropped, its pumpkin time for fixed wing. Nice to see kern County still operating a night flight helicopter.

The Kern copter went home ar pumpkin time as well.

The fire was about 12 acres. Was going to be a little bigger as they were working with the crew and dozens to put in some indirect line. This was to prevent putting crews direct in some very steep terrain at night.

Seem annual that there’s one near the plant, one on the northbound side (already had a decent acreage fire there this year) and one that goes in to the KRN/SBC/VNC area on the south bound side.

Its like Groundhog Day but for wildland fires.

Yeah for sho. The wind going up canyon at freeway level is always the fastest. The further you get up out of the funnel along the freeway, the shoulders slow down and it runs up hill. Either way, it almost never spills outside Grapevine drainage.

There’s an uphill canyon over the west shoulder that runs uphill towards PMC with zero fire history that has no access that could be problamatic, but rarely has alignment.

Peace out! Have fun!
