INCIDENT NARRATIVE

BAKERSFIELD, Calif., Monday morning, Kern County firefighters were dispatched to a vegetation fire that was said to be burning a home. As they were enroute additional information was received that stated it was not a home on fire but rather construction equipment. Not knowing exactly what was burning, firefighters responded ready for whatever they would face on scene.

Upon arrival, the Incident Commander explained that there were multiple homes threatened by a fire spreading through dry grass. Assignments were given to incoming Engine Companies to protect homes and other equipment around the homes. As more fire crews arrived attention could be focused on the uncontrolled Fireline, burning away from the homes in the rolling hills. Within 25 minutes of arriving on scene the fire’s forward progress had been stopped. Although the forward progress had been stopped at 9 acres, much was left to be done. Firefighters continued to work at achieving full containment while also extinguishing several large fires burning personal belongings on the property. Thankfully no homes were destroyed, and no injuries were reported by civilians or firefighters on scene. The cause is undetermined.

Recent local fires should make everybody take notice of the potential for wildfires all around us. Now is the time to prepare. Create defensible space by clearing hazardous dead and dry vegetation away from your property.
