Got some tough conditions right now. Almost 100 degrees and winds 18mph. Going to be tough until the sun goes down.

MAFFS? Where ? Not on contract. I see bortj CAL FIRe C-130’s are on it.

Saw that Maffs mention on watch duty too. The USAF hasn’t been activated. Wayyyy to slow of activity for that.

ADS-B shows 1 MAFFS that looks like it’s responding, although I have seen C-130’s mislabeled on ADS-B as MAFFS before.
*Edit: Of course, it turns north a minute after the original screenshot

Sounded like 460 acres so far…

The USAF keep the MAFFS id on ADSB. Typically year around. Just doing USAF stuff but may not be on actual MAFFS missions.

But Roger that. I was misinformed! They are activated. That’s wild. Federally activated this week under PL-4.

From what I see and what’s been posted on KRV pages, the boys have been making great progress in this heat and wind.

The good news is that for it to go anywhere it has to make it up and on top of the cliffs into the Domeland Wilderness.

The bad news is if it does. Just makes logistics far more complex.

From personal crew experience, that area is so boulder strewn that you beat your hands until you can’t feel them. This is an extremely tough place, for both the fire to survive and for the crews trying to establish line.

So I feel like this would be a good fire to just steer off into the wilderness and let it go. I know that’s a controversial opinion, but with No fire history to the immediate north it might be fairly beneficial. Just my two cents
