Happened several times before. Victims? Goats used to keep it fed down. Before adequate resources could arrive, it will have burned off.
Probably started by Naval Special Warfare folks doing their ordnance training. Just a guess…
Should be federal fire San Diego
They have a station on the island
I believe your thinking of San Clemente Island. Catalina Island is Avalon FD and LACoFD.
I don’t believe this to be a “CA LAC” incident. I believe it should be a Fed Inc.|
San Clemente Island is the southernmost of the Channel Islands of California. It is owned and operated by the United States Navy.
I think you are both right but not realizing the cam is on Catalina island looking south towards San Clemente island where the fire is burning.
The camera on the fire was switched to Cactus Peak 1

If someone knows the correct unit we can update it, went with LAC because the island is part of LA County
When in doubt about the protecting agency, you can always check the DPA map viewer:

The US Navy has Federal Firefighters at the base. Don’t believe they have any Wildland engines, also limited water supplies.
Catalina Island is approximately 50,000 acres of SRA administered by LAC for Cal-Fire.
San Clemente Island is 100% FRA and DOD administered by DOD, San Diego Federal Fire.
Some interesting back story to the island and said fire in this LA Times article.
