Overnight, crews conducted firing operations around the fire to improve line construction. Today, personnel will continue to construct direct line where needed and monitor for spot fires across existing line, specifically in the American River Canyon drainage. Additionally, a priority is mop up of the fire close to the existing line to remove unburnt fuel between the fire and the line.
Residents of the Foresthill community will be escorted by law enforcement on Foresthill Road subject to fire conditions, which could lead to the closure of Foresthill Road.
Those forecasts assume no suppression. Can be good for fires with a lot of uncontrolled line.
From YubaNet, for those not familiar local news site, has reported that forward progress has been stopped. Hotspots are being mopped up and helio is either working or on an as needed basis. I’ve been watching off and on with little smoke on the cameras.
As I began to write that, I noticed that AA had been enroute to Grass Valley and had turned around due to a flare up which can be seen on the Hotchkiss playback at 1:45. I wasn’t able to listen to radio traffic, but AA has left the area and responding to vehicle accident with extension into the wildland. Smoke has dissipated as of this moment.
AA was headed that direction to check on a smoke report from Wolf Mountain at 166 for 20 which had a presumed location on Salmon Falls – the smoke turned out to be from well interior of the black on the Bridge.
