CA-OES-Team Blaze

  1. CF doesn’t hire them. The FS does and CF hires the FS resource through NIFC. California by law is a “closed shop” labor state.
  2. No different than what happened during WWII. The troops left and everyday Americans had to step up and fill the gap(Think Rosie the Riviter)

Americans are resilient.

If your logic is true then can you elaborate the roles and responsibilities of a hired equipment tech that each unit has……. Can you also explain to us, the process on how CALFIRE hires said equipment thru the forest service thru NIFC? Keep in mind their separate entities…

Why is this site allowing anyone to talk about any generation? This site is about wildfire! We all know who fights and who doesn’t!!! Get over yourself!

Each of the units has a Hired Equipment Coordinator that is responsible for those suppliers that have services that comply with The Supplier Participation Manual(SPM). And have a physical presence in that unit. Nowhere in the SPM are “crews” or “engines” even addressed or part of HE. The 10,000 handbook has language prohibiting the use if pvt equipment using HE methods and rates.

The 8100 & 10000 handbooks go into greater depth on the ordering and use of HE.

The hiring and use of HE is governed by the 8100 with the roles and responsibilities of the “Supplier” spelled out in the SPM. The SPM is part of the 10,000 handbook.

The FS hires PVT engines and crews and CF hires FS resources thru ABH, or CFMA. This is no different than how CF hires LG resources in California. Either ABH or CFAA. Now when it comes to out if state resources. Those resources are ordered unit to adjoining agency(ABH) OCC(NoOps, SoOps) to NIFC(NICC) Sac ECC to 1 of the 6 states in the 7 state compact, or Cal-OES through the EMAC which is “State to State” with all 50 governors part of the EMAC.

Again, all if this is spelled out in the 8100 handbook.

Lastly, keep in mind when equipment is ordered “Mutual Aid” depending on the method used. There is an appropriate “administration fee” applied to cover the costs of overhead to administer each program. This is admin fee is no different than CF charges LG that contract for services using Amador or Schedule A contracts.

Hired equipment as in Dozers and WTs is different that hiring private “Fire Departments” Why don’t you contact the HEC in your closest Unit and ask what their job consists of JMHO

As someone who agreed to be a STEN for these type 6’’s, what is their training level? ENGB, FFT1.?

It should be STEN.

Should each engine have a STEN though? And, how are they trained?

STEN is strike team leader eng. Each eng should have an eng boss. It depends on if they go thru state standards or fed standards. Most likely they will follow state oes requirements since that is who they should be working under.

I agree. Just waiting to see after their PR. Campaign.

I imagine their role will be mopping up just as they’ve done before. Crew work, like they’ve done before. But now, they get to roll out in Gavin’s new shiny yellow p/u trucks with great A/C, satellite radio, and a wonderful hose reel. Oh, and a bunch of cool battery powered hydraulic rescue tools!!! I think they’ll enjoy their new whips.

How would you feel about being a new hire and part of a team pit together to mitigate wild land fire, to then discover all other agency personnel where making fun of you and talking crap. The more the merrier folks, we stop fires by shear manpower and numbers. Stay humble my friends

I work with the california military dept frequently and I can tell you these are dedicated people that want nothing more to support our mission. They supply us with some very sophisticated sensor platforms for mapping our fires. I am sure they will be fine staffing a type 6 strike team with some training and guidance.
