Just another way for OES to justify their existence! They can add to their strike teams of retired fire chiefs they’ve employed!
Their training is more than adequate. They are getting the same qualifications through NWCG as other agencies. They are being red carded for necessary qualifications also. For many in the unit it has become nearly a full time endeavor. This isn’t the federal national guard either. It’s the California Military Department. They make up the Emergency Response Command. They support a state mission with a primary focus to assist in state problems. The CO of the unit is a paid fire chief in the civilian world. Additionally OES is having a significant problem staffing the OES engines they’ve handed out to agencies. This won’t be a problem with our state soldiers. I think most of the troops rolling with these rigs on strike teams will have better training and fitness than many of the volunteer and contract firefighters on the line.
What is CDF’s Type 1 Crew requirements these days?
Twigpig, your last sentence is troubling. Measuring any of these units against those from any other LG agency is borderline on calling the line. Let’s all be adults here.
H-S
Let’s not discuss Type 1 crew requirements. Unless there is agreement on the size and make up, that’s a nebulous term. CALFIRE has never followed the NWCG guidelines for Type 1 crews.
Wow, why don’t you tell us all how you really feel!
This is like watching CNN vs FOX
CALFIRE!!! BABY!!!
Obviously a hot topic that, if we go back to the top had some good points, some of which referenced wanting to see how responses/reactions would go and that this is what happens when it’s slow…I’m no mod here at all but as also discussed in the past, by some of the folks commenting here, this forum is looked at by people from all walks and perspectives and taken as “real” points of view. Now, I think many of us have opinions on this very matter, I sure do, but be careful how opinions are aired.
WINTER IS COMING! getting our snow chains on tmrw!
Yup…When need to find a new topic to Discuss(argue about) Like were enough fire brooms used for the lava cap fire in Hawaii. What’s the best tire size for a Model 34. The all around best tool for cutting handline. Who on here has caught the biggest fish etc. Maybe, let’s just be thankful for now everyone not committed to an Incident. Lets just get through another Fire Season as safe as possible.
High-Sierra, I know I’ve seen some pretty undertrained and under qualified local government volunteer crews and contract crews on the line. I didn’t call out crews by name. I’ll take military discipline and training over someone with little training and inadequate equipment any day.
I once caught a 22 lb golden trout in Coyote Creek here in San Jose. Epic. I didn’t take any pictures and I was alone but I’m pretty sure I caught it and it was probably totally legit!
any suggestions on a restroom remodel for camp?.. 1/4 hardieback or leave the cement
This one has gone a very different direction !
are you 02350 ground attack?
So OES really pushing the story like it’s the newest and best ever. Made ABC 7 in Bay Area. One less mention item is LG can make $$$ sending their own type 6 vs using OES. Doesn’t pay for equipment but allows LG to decide its use
We talk about building boxes around fires. This is just another nail in a box of nails. Nothing game changing.
I feel like it’s not game changing either and not really anything new, just something to make civilians feel better. This is however, just my opinion and I’m not a firefighter, kind of a civilian myself but with certain enhancements… Lol
I agree with this whole heartedly. We could add 1 or 2 oes rigs in a cdf strike team with cdf personnel and bolster numbers.
I don’t think anybody anywhere thinks the addition of this is a game changer. It’s just something else to help out. I feel like some of you have never seen a press release before.
