If it makes it to the crest
It runs into the Holy, Canyon 1 & Canyon 2 scars from 2017 & 2018. With the amount of rain we got in 2022, & 2023 the 1hr & 10hr fuel bed will be extremely receptive. If it makes it over the top, the down Canyon puts everything from Sierra & Green River rd all the way to Bedford, Coldwater, and Indian Canyons in the bullseye with down Canyon winds. Now this being the 3rd major fire, 2nd fire with a major structure threat. I wouldn’t want to be the one writing a 209 or making decisions about priorities on what fire gets NVG Rotorwing tonight.

Great point! It’s chewing up the middle of the canyon now, shouldn’t be long to make it over, even worse if the column falls.

It’s got some serious growth on the 15 min. cam loop

View from Horsetheif canyon looking at Trabuco Peak and this shows what the vegetation is like after the Holy Fire.

the Santiago south cam has a great view right now, wouldn’t be surprised to see an area ignition of that bowl just below the towers. fire behavior is fascinating

that’s a good amount of growth in the holy scare. NWS wind forecast shows winds 10mph gust 20 switching to north tonight then back to the west tomorrow

The Airport Fire (left) on Santiago Peak from the south vs when the Holy Fire (right) went up the northeast side attempting to burn the towers in August 2018. Note, by the time the Holy Fire got to the peak firefighting personnel had already spent several days staging there, prepping the land. Not the case here.

Additionally, between the two fires is the comperably tiny 500 acre Jim Fire that stalled out and died on that mountain in March 2022. The Jim Fire scar will slow this burn must more reliably than the Holy Fire’s regrown scar will.

Have they been able to do retardant drops for at least some prep?

Ops just sent a T6 strike team to the repeater site ASAP for infrastructure protection.

Doesn’t look like they have much time based on the growth, hopefully not a direct hit to the site.

There was a State Strike Team sent up there but had a hour eta from the East Side, they doubt they are gonna make it

This one dropped before this capture

There are retardant drops occurring around the repeater site. I have seen about 5 so far. The difference between the Holy Fire and this fire is won’t be able to get any prep work done on Main divide with retardant before sunset. So the fire could just slop over tonight.

That’s exactly right, and of course Indian Truck trail. Lots of open country down there. Worked on the Holy Fire with the “Borg”

Santiago Peak 2 cam South view showing the fire burning down about to hit a slope reversal, Tankers trying to hold in there but large fire growth in the canyon.

AA trying to make something happen asking for 2 VLATs and 2 T1 tankers by 1900 hrs.
