Sorry - didn’t see the IA thread already on this - but we ll prob need a Q & A anyway.
Ok- so I have to ask- what is the “one drop” policy…
If there isn’t a AA or lead plane at the incident then IA qualified tankers can make one drop at the incident before the AA arrives.
One drop per tanker if multiple IA tankers happen to make it on scene before AA?
One drop even if only half a load on drop 1?
(sorry to digress from fire thread, just asking the obvious remaining questions…)
Not ever heard of that, is it county specific?
This usually pertains to the first IA air tanker only arriving on the incident.
If there are two or more there without AA, all AT must orbit and wait for ATGS to setup and coordinate the airspace/fire traffic.
Not sure about the USFS tankers but CalFire S2’s can drop without AA being established
Yes, Cal Fire S-2’s are all IA qualified. I’m not sure about the Fed Tankers. I believe they need an AA, and the LAT’s and VLAT’s need a lead plane as well.
All LAT’s are IA qualified. They do not need a lead or an AA to take action on a fire. VLAT’s still need a Lead.
I appreciate the info. And would like more info but can we start a new stringer under discussion thank you.
