15 acres, DROS, potential of extended, and started by the gun club.
The 2020 Apple Fire scar is to the north. It looks like it has some room to run to the east but there looks to be two good places to hold it on Hathaway Canyon and then Potrero Canyon/Road.
Also has the Hathaway fire burn scar near by. But that has probably regrown
RRU and BDF rock no smoke from webcams awesome stop
Unless you have been in that canyon, you can’t realize how big of a stop that was. Really great work by all involved under very bad conditions.
I grew up in that area. Fires have broken out on that hill pretty regularly. That fire never had a chance to go anywhere, they always catch it at the top of the ridge next to the gun range.
Here’s pics I took of another fire (Canyon Fire IIRC) that started in that exact spot in similar conditions in June 2017. Only burned about 100 acres.
The Apple Fire only went large because it started on the other end of the Banning Bench off Oak Glen Road in dense chaparral that kept it alive overnight where it got further established in the upper foothills the next day.
Agree
Most of the fires that come out of that shooting area are caught as it crests the ridge and burns down into Hathaway cyn. A fire that starts up in Mias canyon is another story
