The last major fire to burn in that area was the Silver Fire of August 2013. Prior to that there was the Gorgonio Fire earlier that year in May that’s burning on the exact footprint of the Edna Fire.

Prior to both fires, the 2006 Esperanza Fire which killed five firefighters burned on that exact mountain range as well.

The brush has grown back quite thick since the Silver Fire, which burned 20,292 acres despite that fire only being in 7 year old brush at the time. The brush here nearly doubles that age. This fire COULD have potential.

But I grew up in that area and I’ve seen plenty of fires that started on that road get contained at around 20 to 50 acres. So it’s a dice roll.

Yeah they usually get snuffed out around that size. God forbid a fire ever goes off in that area during the santa ana winds again because that area is lethal when it burns in the fall. Edna’ 98 , Esperanza '06.
