Curious to see how the Bonny Fire scar affects the forward momentum of this fire once it hits it. Nixon is certainly closing the gap between the two burns.

This thing will likely end up bigger than Bonny regardless tho. I remember Bonny stubbornly fighting for its life one acre at a time for much of its burn while this thing is simply roaring with life.

Crazy to put the size and ROS in perspective with the Park Fire. This fire started 5 hours and just hit 1000 acres. 200 acres an hour. The Park was at 3500-4500 acres an hour for the 1st 48 hours. I think the term “dangerous rate spread” is starting to be overused in some instances.

I’d toss that fire into the Critical ROS haha.

Anyone know the fire politics with MAFFS and State Responsibility Areas? Could they be on order if available?

MAFFS are used regularly on State incidents. SOPS and NOPS control aircraft assignments. I assume because there is no ASM assigned to this that may be one reason.

If they have been activated, they are in the mix and would go where needed. SRA/FED makes nothing different. Even if NICC called up every body except the CA aircraft and CF activated the two at Channel Islands, they are all thrown into the mix like any other air tanker.

Only so many ASM available. With the Park, Borax, and other fire’s. I imagine ASM, ATGS ships and appropriate relief are at a premium. The Fixed wing on this fire are all CF or CF EU that don’t require a Lead on a SRA Fire.

Simple math, too any fire’s, too few resources with PL5.

All those traditional RVC type ones they just got will do amazing up there, Those roads are terrible and nothing South of 371 should be anything but the older RVC interface engines or type 3s, terrible access for anything up there.
