Shasta-Trinity National Forest firefighters responded last night to a fire reported near Captains Point on the west side of Trinity Lake. As of 9:30 a.m. this morning, the fire is estimated to be 12 acres in a heavy timbered area with snags. No structures are threatened by the fire. Firefighters, hand crews and Fire Engines worked through the night to complete a hand-line around the fire to better help gain control. Additional fire engine and hand crew personnel are on order to relieve firefighters that have worked through the night.

Aerial resources are en-route to the fire to assist firefighters. Helicopter 506 from the Trinity Air Attack Base will be used to help fight the fire and an Air Attack plane from the Redding Air Attack Base will coordinate the movement and use of aerial resources to assist ground firefighting efforts.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, no ignition source has yet to be identified.

It is on the east side of Bowerman Ridge area, about half way from Trinity Center to the dam.
