South of 36W, SW of Platina and below Harrison Gulch, not sure on exact location, as Bullychoop put it at 28N, 10W Sec 18, near Round Mtn. However they sent a recon aircraft on it who orbited here, closer to Sec 23, closer to the Beegum Gulch, which is what the original report was (“back side of Beegum Gulch”)
Recon suggested an AA and two type 1 helicopters, and mentioned it was burning fairly active. I missed the rest in cross traffic. SHF sending ground dispatch to the Sec18 location, and CalFire C205 enroute. Should get a tighter location soon.
Edit: SHF’s tweet puts it in between my two hits. “just south of North Star Mtn” haha. I guess this is what you get posting IA on a very remote incident.
Bravo 58 on scene, 1/4 acre to the top of the ridge, timber, SROS, with two TStorms in the area potential for spotting over the ridge with outflow winds. T01 also onscene, C205 inserting the crew and looking for water.
And it’s where I thought it was, just northwest of Stuart Gap in Sec 23, above Beegum Gorge.
Second tanker ordered. Ground resources almost on scene from closest road access. Just don’t want this to get away from them in this area. As @chukar says, bad area to put up a fight.
I haven’t heard "V"lat on this one, but I have excited kids running around now so may have missed something. I believe T105 is finishing up a fuel and load at Chico and will come out as the second tanker ordered. T01 already turned around at Redding for 2nd drop.
1 acre to the top of the ridge, looking good just want to really make sure this thing has little to no chance of fighting the ground crews tonight.
T911 off McClellan en-route to this fire, but AA said he ordered a LAT not a VLAT. Seeing if they can be used elsewhere, will take them if not needed elsewhere.
Edit: T911 diverted to the “Red Fire” - not sure where that one is.
I flew this soon after it stated. Very active ground fire with torching but catchable. Ridge top with a road below it. No significant wind at the time but cells off to the northwest.
Salmon fire on the very northwest corner of the SHF and the Red fire just across the Forest boundary on the SRF. Both very ugly terrain. I wouldn’t be surprised if they join together at some point.
