I believe they are calling this the Humbug Fire. T90 and 91 enroute from UAAB
Both fires producing decent heat signatures.
South heat signature is the Hog Fire
Humbug AA reporting a spot fire on the right flank.
I actually think the fire names are switched- the Badger is the larger. The Humbug was the first fire and was small- held up by roads. While they were on that, they saw the second fire begin.
This is what I’m seeing also. Badger is the big guy, Humbug the smaller guy.
Badger Fire is 20 acres w/ 0% containment.
AA reports Badger fire is 100 acres, main fire has combined with spot fire. Working retardant on the ridge top (left flank).
Weather conditions:
Caltrans - Anderson Grade - I5 just below Humbug fire to the east - N11G16 91F 23RH, This will show the conditions closer to the base of the mountain and influence up the east side grade…
Oak Knoll RAWS well west of the incident Hwy 96 at Oak Knoll and head of the namesake Humbug Creek, WSW6G13 101F 14RH Fuel Temp 106. This station can give an idea of the wind influence across the top of the ridge…
Copter 205 is the new hawk by the way. Today’s their first day with the Copter 205 callsign instead of 485DF.
AA has requested 1 VLAT to the Badger.
Hopefully the VLAT’s in CA got extended.
Escalating quickly!
AA advised Humbug IC that the Badger fire is throwing spots down below them and it will be making a run up at their location. His last words were “ it’s coming at you”.
Column is capping out. Just made a big run and spots to the east of the main fire are taking off.
Important to note that this area is really dry and was far below average on precip this year. With fuels being that dry, wind and slope will be a factor- but the fuel could be come the driver. The long range and reception of the spots points to critical conditions.
Per the IC both the Badger and the Hambug fires have merged.
Additionally a local government strike team will be forming up at the state fairgrounds in Yreka.
Mandatory evacuations for the north side of Hawkinsville Humbug Road from Old Shasta River road on the north, Highway 263 on the east.
