Weather concerns for today include… Mixing heights will be high enough to allow for plume dominated fire behavior, especially in the afternoon to early evening hours. Light winds in the morning will increase from the west, becoming gusty in the afternoon to evening with peak gusts between 20 to 25 mph.
Winds in Santa Maria are picking up significantly. That’s where winds for the 166 corridor are generated, unless it’s a push from the Kern side. Heads on a swivel out there!
The fire is now at 70,800.5 acres by CAL FIRE Intel aircraft.
A post was merged into an existing topic: CA-SLU/LPF-Madre??
The airshow is focused on the northeast side along branch mountain road.
I was told that the north east area of the fire made a hard run today. No info on how much acreage was involved.
It’s up into the Pilitas Mountains on the north side. Bit of heat along 166 above the Chaulk Mountains. South pushed down the range into Caliente Mountains. According to the heat scans (VIIRS and MODIS).
The Caltopo has 3 hour old heat scans and map:
Just the south spread on 7/4 is 31 sections @ 640 acres each, estimate = 20k acres.
