Brian Vasquez sums up why it can take so long to hit 100% containment.

Two Chumash Reservation engines have been patrol and mop up through out the fire area. Found some stumps smoldering in the shaver lake/ huntington lakes area last week.
Pretty sad commentary, it wonât be called contained because of beauracratic reasons. The availability of people to " do the paperwork" should have absolutely no bearing on containment.
When are we going to go back to actually using what the term containment actually is by Definition? If not, then why do we even bother? It has become a running joke.
Great bunch of guys and gals. STRONG WORK CHUMASH!
You are right to an extent. By keeping the fire in an uncontained status enables the paperwork component to continue to be funded by the fire and not have to funded as part of the normal administrative funds.
Not true. The JC will stay open for months after containment.
With respect Keith, I disagree.
This is another example of an agency using terminology intended for professionals to produce and the public to consume intended to reflect the progress made on a a wildland fire and use it for something totally unintended rendering it useless.
I have for years advocated for the wildland world to reflect proper containment usage. If we teach something one way and use it in a totally different context then what good is it?
The common response is âwe will be in trouble if we lose the fire while showing 80% containment.â
That is complete nonsense, we all know circumstances happen that can cause a lowering of containment.
The exercise that Plans and Ops goes through to calculate proper containment is a waste of time when the âhigher upsâ simply say we canât show those numbers.
N441cj is currently mapping the fire.
Chumash engines responded to 2 snags burning in the Huntington Lake area. No threat to spread outside lines. Both felled and extinguished.
Inciweb is posting it as 100% contained yesterday at 379,895, 12-24-20.
Forest is continuing minimum staffing of a few FRA engine crews.
This was taken from Vista point at the top of the 4 lanes, this is the lee side of the saddle on the half bowl that dogwood, pine ridge, and alder springs are on.
Flew a drone over the origin today. I believe the origin to be at the intersection of Big creek and a small drainage. Thereâs an awesome camping spot right next to that big pool. Uploading: E301CFB0-491E-4D7C-81A1-8AF981092BE9.jpeg⌠Uploading: FDF1F272-3795-41AB-A6EF-153B607A993A.jpegâŚ
