Its really only divisions A and M and that’s if it crosses the river into division m. If it crosses in w then it’ll be way different.
AA15 up with Lead K5 are tag and extend in the NW corner of the fire building line from yesterday towards the east. It’s in line with a road. Div. M, maybe as far as Div.O. Just by radar locations.
Clean air will run out soon so extending line will be limited. 4 LATs in the mission.
AA reports no clean air Div. T or W.
update 1320; AA briefing with relief AA is that there will be a firing operation in
Div.A/W to clean up the edge. Prep is already underway. Just 3-4 copters over the
fire currently.
Scooper may begin working out of Pine Flat Lake.
Update 1600; AA has T40 and T121 re-enforcing previous drops in Div. Q and T.
Fire has challenged some of the older drops.
Here is mapping showing 15 hours of growth on the fire - 01:00 IR is white line vs 15:00 FIRIS - red fill.
Fire is entering the Teakettle Experiemental Forest - Green outline. Much money has been spent, and many meetings have been had, trying to get this area burned in the past several years…
AA15 brought the scoopers out for running cooling drops in Div. T where there is no retardant but active open fire line. Wishon or Pine flat for refill. Clean air and SROS currently.
Reloading at wishon and dropping in division Oscar/ teakettle range.
If this is going to stopped along Div M it will be in Teakettle as it has the topography and road network to build line from. Snags both standing and downed will pose problems though. This upper portion is in Red Fir forest that is more open and cools of overnight better. Looking like the 24 road is being worked so hopefully they can hold that lower elevation country as it poses the greatest risk of spotting onto Dinkey Creek side of the hill.
Helco for the night copters could not find any targets for the mission. Night copters will not be working. Not sure if Helco will check later.
Seems like the plan is to use McKinley Rd as contingency.
AA on scene asking for both super scoopers
Scoopers are loading from shaver lake
AA07 and Lead B5 will be running the LATs NE flank, perhaps Div.Q-O and scoopers what sounds as working a 1/2 acre spot fire in Div. M.
I believe fixed wing departed the fire around 1100 for lack of clean air.
Update 13:15; AA back up over the fire requesting ASM report Div. O and
Helco report to Div. W/T break. Air show to follow… 4 LATs
Firewatch 51 reported 16,466 acres at 10am today.17,159 acres at 13:30 fly over.
Pretty detailed update with Team 10 and Nathan magsig.
Tankers are going direct and hard at the fire edge around the Black Rock Dam.
Firing in divisions alpha and whiskey was done early this morning.
AA15 flew the fire early around 7am and could not see the ground from
smoke out conditions. Still looks like the case 3 hours later.
Switched command to NIFC Cmd.5: 169.750
AA15 is back over the fire along with AA51 who is mapping.
Scoopers are heading back to the fire.
