Yesterday (Friday) crews completed a hose lay around the fire and stated they are still mopping up some smokes and hot spots.

(I had no internet coverage access but, where two way radios still work.)

Granite Fire Update - 22 July 2023

Sierra National Forest firefighters fully contained the Granite Fire Saturday, July 22, and held it at a half acre. The cause was determined to be lightning.

Saturday morning, deliveries via helicopter of hose, blivets (essentially 75-bags of water), and other supplies allowed firefighters to efficiently and thoroughly mop up hotspots near the fireline and use aircraft less. Around 6 p.m. all fire personnel came off the fire and headed back to quarters. A few firefighters will return Sunday to patrol and mop up any lingering hotspots.

This will be the last update on the Granite Fire, barring a significant change.
