The Sierra National Forest is working to contain the Round Wildfire on the Bass Lake Ranger District
Clovis CA, February 8, 2020 – Sierra National Forest (SNF) officials continue to work on containing a wildfire that started from pile burning operations on the Ferguson Fire Pile burning project Thursday, February 6th within the Bass Lake Ranger District.
The fire is located north of the 5S25 road and 5S03 junction east of Roundtree Saddle and west of Crow Peak. It is currently approximately 15 acres in size, and is staffed with fire personnel from Sierra National Forest and Cal-Fire Madera, Mariposa, Merced Unit.
Hazardous conditions for fire fighters include steep terrain and heavy fuel loads created by recent tree mortality and fire killed vegetation from the Oliver Fire in 2008. The fire is being fully suppressed at this time.
Forest staff have coordinated with the Mariposa County Air Pollution Control District on the status of the fire. Localized smoke impacts may be felt in Ponderosa Basin, Bootjack, Oakhurst, Fish Camp, Sugar Pine and Awahnee.
