UTF mapping flight last night because of cloud cover. MODIS/VIIRS suggest growth was partly the burn op along the northwest flank and partly growth to the south.
All quiet today after decent rains yesterday, AA15 spent most of its time over the Renee fire which isn’t doing much.
Borel incident has been added to the complex. It was started in the canyon by a solo vehicle crash yesterday afternoon.
Luckily it lost some steam.
For Trout/Long (not Borel since it has it’s own page): Not much smoke on cams.
Trout Fire: 22,231 ac, 20% contained. Fire behavior was moderate Thursday, consisting primarily of flanking, backing, and creeping.
The most active portions of the Trout Fire are the western and southern perimeter where fireline hasn’t yet been constructed, specifically in the Machine, Little Trout, and Snow Creek drainages. In Sirretta Pass, expect the fire to run upslope under the influence of daytime upslope winds. In Brush and Salmon Creeks, expect moderate downslope spread to the southwest overnight.
Long Fire: 9,204 ac, 30% contained. Fire behavior was moderate Thursday, consisting primarily of backing and smoldering. Where fireline has not yet been constructed on the northwest side, the Long Fire has potential to progress northward into the South Fork Kern River drainage. The fire could potentially spread rapidly in brush. The Long is burning into the post-high severity 2020 Manter Fire footprint, likely reducing fire behavior.

The Long fire has shown very little smoke and has strong containment this morning at 95% and holding around 9200 acres. the long fire is in patrol status and is currently unstaffed.
The Trout fire has seen small increase in size to 23500 acres and is 33% containment. No threat to existing containment lines, fire could continue to grow to the east and with west winds may reach fish creek. The terrain is very rocky and will help slow any advance to the east. Crews are actively working the fire.
On August 1, at 1900. FDNY IMT 3 took command of the Trout and Long Fires from CIIMT 11.

Update from Sequoia National Forest:
The fire is now 68% contained.
Crews will continue to hold and mop-up Sherman Pass Rd from Bald Mountain to indirect line and improve former line to Sirretta Pass. Chipping operations were completed in the Cherry Hill area and will continue to progress, dealing with debris along road systems that were created during suppression operations. Suppression repair assessment will begin in the Cherry Hill area.
On the east flank of the fire, crews will be working to patrol and secure line east of 32. Sunny and warmer conditions are expected and will continue influencing fire behavior. Interior islands will continue to burn with possible spread to the west within the indirect containment lines. Spotting to the north over Sherman Pass Rd could further increase fire spread.

Morning update from Sequoia National Forest:
The fire remains 23,597 acres and 70% contained.
Crews will continue to hold and mop-up along Sherman Pass Rd. Line improvements are underway in various areas to maintain and improve on containment. Continued transition to damage assessment and suppression repair where needed. Continue to monitor and patrol the east flank of the fire. Wildland fire modules are monitoring in steep country. The threat of short-range spotting will remain but may be mitigated with the gradual cooling and somewhat higher humidity as the days progress. Heavy surface and ground fuels will continue to generate heat, driving that possibility.
Weather & Air Quality: A slow cooling trend will continue today as high pressure gradually breaks down through the weekend. Expect more cumulus buildups in the area today due to an increase in mid-level moisture from the southeast. Max temperatures of 72-82 degrees are expected today with a minimum relative humidity (RH) of 18-27%. West/southwest wind speeds of 6-13 mph with gusts of 17 mph are expected after 3pm. On ridges/exposed areas wind speeds of 9-16 mph with gusts of 22 mph are expected. Tonight, minimum temps across the fire will range from 48-60 degrees with RH recoveries between 35-63 percent.strong text

Current Situation: We want to thank the New York City Fire Department Type 3 Incident Management Team for their efforts managing the SQF Lightning Fire over the past weeks. This morning, the team managing the Borel Fire (CA Interagency Incident Management Team 2) have assumed command of the Trout Fire and Long Fire. Fire activity is minimal, and is not posing a threat to additional growth. Fire suppression repair activities continue.
Borel Fire: Firefighters are still on high alert for potential new fires that start in the immediate area and are ready for a rapid response. Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) teams have arrived and will begin to determine the need for and to prescribe and implement emergency treatments to stabilize and prevent unacceptable degradation to natural and cultural resources. We encourage residents re-entering the area to proceed with caution to avoid unseen hazards caused by the fire, and help maintain the safety of repair crews working in the area.
Trout Fire: The fire continues to smolder and move slowly uphill in steep terrain. Crews will construct several miles of fire line to increase containment. Fire suppression repair operations continue in the fire area.
Long Fire: This fire is 98% contained, and nearly all Long Fire personnel have been reassigned to Trout or Borel. The area is being monitored, there is no threat, and no changes are expected.
Sequoia National Forest & BLM Closures & Restrictions: The Borel Fire Piute Mountains Area Closure begins at the northwest corner of Section 30, Township 27 South, Range 33 East, Mount Diablo Base and Meridian, then continues approximately 47 miles around the Sequoia National Forest Boundary to the starting point. The Bureau of Land Management Bakersfield Office is lifting the emergency closure of the Creek Campground, a portion of the Pacific Crest Trail, and Canebrake Road in Tulare County. The closures were in place for public and firefighter safety in relation to the management of the SQF Lightning Complex Fire and are no longer necessary due to the lack of fire progression. With fire conditions moderating significantly over the past week, this will be the last information update for the Borel, Trout and Long fires, unless significant fire activity occurs. The current situation for all three fires is as follows: the Borel fire is at 59,288 acres and 94% containment, the Trout fire is at 23,822 acres and 75% containment, and the Long Fire is at 9,204 acres and 98% containment. California Interagency Incident Management Team 2 will begin transition of command of the Borel Fire to a local type-3 organization, and Trout Fire will be transitioned to a type-4 organization. Fire information calls will continue to be answered by CIIMT 2 Information Officers through Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at 559-481-7849.
