I believe this is east of Calaveras Reservoir and pretty remote country.
I’ve been out there. Certainly not an area that’s great for equipment access. Some areas are extremely steep.
The fire is holding at 3-5 acres and structure threat has been mitigated with retardant drops - per Air Attack.
Great news. Between the Canyon and Crozier incidents, I’d assume TCU/AEU are relatively drawn down. Limited resources and tough access where this started could’ve made for a bad day. Let’s hope it continues to hold.
Had this happened last week it would likely have been pretty ugly.
10 acres. Spotted across a road and running in grass and brush. Requesting two additional Type 3 air tankers.
I was afraid of that. I think they’ve seen a bit of an uptick in wind.
5 additional type 3 engines ordered.
The fire is 5 to 7 acres with a moderate rate of spread now and moving through the retardant lines. Air attack has requested 2 additional tankers per radio traffic. Incident command is requesting an additional 5 engines as well as noted above.
18 acres with retardant all around but fire continues to move through retardant. This is what I was afraid of. Hopefully these guys can get a handle on it. Serious potential here.
From my house in Sonora there is no more base to the fire just top smoke coming over the ridge. Hopefully that’s a good sign. Tankers are still flying out of Columbia.
The fire has been mapped at 15.5 acres per FIRIS Intel 12. The perimeter is viewable on the Watch Duty map. All air tankers have been released from the fire and air attack and several helicopters continue to work on the fire.
AA headed back to Columbia to gas up. He will head back after getting Fuel. AA stated he was concerned about the intail run of the fire because how smoke laid down over the timber. Worried about spots out in front of the head of the fire in the timber. He also said fire was looking good and the copters were doing a good job on hot spots .In a conversation with AA the SPI Rep gave Kudos to AA about the job he did on the fire. Keeping it out of the South Fork of the Mokelumne River. He also did a great job yesterday morning on the Canyon Fire. That being said a Big Shout Out to AA 440.
