Update, October 23, 2022, 5:45 p.m.
The Mosquito Fire is 100% contained. Smoke from small islands of unburned vegetation within the perimeter may be more visible on Monday as drier conditions arrive in the area. Another small storm system is expected to move in Tuesday and Wednesday. Crews are continuing to patrol the fire to ensure that containment remains solid.

Staging some incoming resources at PCWA property at the old Mill site in FH. This is the usual ICP for TNF fires in this area. IE American, Ralston and the last days of the 2014 King fire

Lots of great information. However, please be more careful assigning blame for fires. Investigators processed an area under a power pole. Ruling out all possible causes in the greater origin area is part of the investigation process. This sparked the assumption this was another Pg&e Fire. Law firms started the adds for victims to represent and the snowball started down the hill before the origin had even been released for privates to look at. But why wait for facts when you have a profitable story? The USFS/CDF report is not out. A early photo of the fire posted shows an ellipse with a wide flat base against the road. This pattern is not consistent with an ignition 50 to 75 ft up the hill where the pole(s) are located. The lawyers looking for victims has stopped and the lack of filings to the PUC would indicate the Authority With Jurisdiction is not looking a the electrical equipment as a possible cause.

For clarification, the pole base in question, (the one USFS LEO had taped off during the incident) with Sw 47 and 49 on it, is not 50-75 feet up the hill from the road. It is right at the base of the road on the up hill side. I believe it is a 60’ pole and the hillside is probably 60°+. It is my understanding that the switch was impounded by USFS and has been shipped for testing and further investigation. This is a SCADA (remotely controlled) operated switch that was replaced ± 10 yrs ago. It was previously mounted on a wooden pole that had issues with closing and opening of all 3 phases, reliably. The new switch was mounted on a steel pole. I agree that the comment that PG&E conductor or pole “shorted out,” causing the fire is probably inaccurate. A short, by definition, is an unintended path to ground, emphasis on unintended. There were NO reports of wire being down. This switch could have failed by an over current condition or a phase to phase failure. Either event, could have melted the switch and showered molten metal on to the ground. As with all mechanical failures, it’s either product or procedure, or a combination of both. As you said the investigation report has not been released, so it’s all speculation at this point.
