Is this the first time that CAL FIRE/ CDF has done night air operations in Northern CA ? Radio traffic is recon and water drops on the Mosquito Fire. About time…

I believe that C404 did some on the Electra fire…

Night ops with low altitude has many hazards more than day ops. It should not be taken lightly the risks involved, as I’m sure they weren’t by those making the decision to fly.

They also have UH-72 14-72346 flying the fire. Some kind of imaging? C404 is busy by Quintette now, looks like they are dipping and dropping water on something.

My son and I were talking about C-404 making drops at night. Would of be nice to have that capability when we had 21 acres last weeks night fire in Sonora. We were low on engines do to other fires. Old school in me is wary.

As far as the black hawks go they’ve flown a few times at night on fires up here, but night aircraft has been used quite a bit in nor cal over the last couple years

They had 305 and Guard 34 up. They were out here for a few hours. Not sure if they did anything.

No update on acreage from NIROPS last night, too much cloud cover. They were however able to interpret some fire intensity on the north and east.

From 0900 UTC.

Details -
Heavy clouds were present over the majority of the fire…
Weather conditions had a severe effect upon analysis.
Extensive growth in the perimeter was detected on the northern and central east perimeter of the fire.
Large areas of intense fire were detected along the northern and central east perimeter of the fire.
Large areas of scattered fire were detected along the northern and central perimeter of the fire that the interpreter could see through the heavy clouds.
Isolated fires were generally within fairly close proximity to the main perimeters.

Why don’t they post the IAP to FTP. site? Is that site used anymore? Where can you find the daily up dated IAP?
